Rosie’s Story
Born in Kansas, Rosie grew up on a wheat farm with an older sister and brother. They didn’t have indoor plumbing or a telephone in the old farm house. In fact, they didn’t have electricity until she was 8 years old. The house was heated with a wood stove. Rosie grew up in a home with Christian values and beliefs and was baptized in the SDA Church at the age of 15.
Rosie learned to sew at a very early age on a treadle machine making doll clothes from her mother’s scraps of fabric. During her lifetime, she has made many items of her own clothing, including her wedding dress. She has made garments for her children & grandchildren, including her daughter’s and daughter-in-law’s wedding dresses.
She was determined to get an education and become a nurse. When leaving for college, Rosie had 45 cents in her purse but had been promised a job and a scholarship for $250.00. Because of the financial circumstances of her family, it was necessary for her to work 2 jobs to earn her room, board, & college tuition. She went to Union College in Lincoln, Nebraska. There was a furniture factory on campus for students to help defray their expenses and that was her first “real job” installing bottoms on drawers. She loved competing with the men and could work just as fast and accurately as they did. Later they transferred Rosie to the office when they learned that she could type. Her second job was at a nursing home one block away from the campus. The owner was very flexible and allowed her to come in whenever she had free time. Rosie did the cleaning and many mornings made breakfast for the 10-15 residents before going to classes.
After graduating with a B.S. in nursing, Rosie worked as a school nurse for a private junior college in Texas for one year. During that time, she met Lyle and they fell in love. They were married the following August in New Mexico. He was a widower with a baby boy, Brian, so Rosie became an instant mother. (She later adopted Brian.) One year later, Rosie gave birth to boy and girl twins, Stephen and Stephanie. They spent the next 20 years raising and educating the children. Rosie worked off and on as a nurse whenever the financial need arose but tried to arrange her hours around the children’s school hours so that she could always be home when they were. Since Lyle was a traveling evangelist, there were many times that she felt like a single mom at home with the children.
When the children were in their last years of high school and college, they went to boarding schools and Rosie traveled with Lyle helping with the Evangelistic meetings.
Now all three children are married and we have 5 wonderful grandchildren to enjoy. You may view their pictures on this website.
Lyle’s Story
Lyle was born in Southern California, and grew up in southern Oregon and northern California. His dad was a carpenter working in the lumber mills. His mother was a bookkeeper. He had a younger sister and brother. During his childhood he suffered two bouts of Rheumatic fever and nearly died at one point because of a liver infection. Thankfully he recovered. Lyle accepted the Lord and was baptized as a Seventh-day Adventist Christian at the age of 10. He has always had a very strong Christian faith since childhood.
He is a very talented musician and plays the trumpet, piano, and organ. He built an organ himself from a Schober kit at one time. He loves woodworking and has made a number of very nice pieces of furniture. Lyle also built a 17 foot inboard ski boat when our children were teenagers. It became a family project that the whole family enjoyed.
After attending a Pacific Union College in Angwin, California, Lyle married at age 19, then got a degree in Electronics from DeVry Institute in Chicago, Illinois in the early ‘60's.
Lyle was offered a job at Sandia Corporation in Albuquerque, New Mexico working with the Atomic Energy Commission. He worked on the non-nuclear weapons program and had a part in the design of the Poseidon Missile.
In November of 1963, his first wife, Heather, died very suddenly and unexpectedly, leaving him with a 3 month old infant son, Brian. His life changed dramatically. Later he met Rosie through mutual friends. After a whirlwind courtship, they were married in August 1964.
In 1966, Lyle had just received his 5 year pin at Sandia Corporation when he left that job to go back to school (again at Pacific Union College) this time to study for the Gospel ministry. This was quite an undertaking with 3 small children..but with Rosie working as a Public Health Nurse, he got through 2 more years of school. They began their life in the Gospel ministry in 1968.
His first pastorate was in upstate New York. Later they moved to Staten Island where Lyle was the pastor of a multi-cultural SDA congregation. In 1974, Lyle & Rosie were invited to move to Ontario, Canada and do full time traveling evangelism. This was his full time life for the next 18 years. Traveling from city to city, conducting 6 weeks of evangelistic meetings, and baptizing more than 3, 000 people was a very rewarding and fulfilling experience. During those years they lived in New York, Ontario, Canada, North Carolina, and most recently in California. As Lyle reached midlife, this lifestyle began to take its toll on his health and it became necessary to make some changes. He was suffering from high cholesterol and high triglycerides and needed a rest. (This has all been resolved since (largely because of Pharmanex products) and he is enjoying good health again.)
Our NuSkin Story
In 1989 my father (Rosie’s) who was becoming more and more debilitated with Parkinson’s disease came to live with us in California. (My mother died in 1983 with ovarian cancer.) Dad’s skin was very fragile . Even though I was bathing him everyday in soap and water and rubbing him down with an Intensive Care Lotion, his skin was breaking down. He ended up having to have a skin graft. At this time our oldest son, Brian, was a nursing home administrator in Florida, and he introduced us to NuSkin. He felt that NuSkin would be a great help to my father. IT WAS A LIFESAVER. Within just a few days of using the NuSkin products, his body odor vanished and his skin healed, never to be a problem again.
I was so impressed with the NuSkin products that I wanted to enroll with the company just to be a wholesale consumer. Lyle on the other hand saw the business opportunity and felt we could supplement our income with NuSkin as a business. I really didn’t have any intention of joining the business but it wasn’t long until my friends began to comment on how good my skin looked and they wondered what I was doing differently. When they wanted to get some of the products too, I thought perhaps I could at least do something on a very part time basis with the business. We began to share the business and products on our days off, and within 5 months, we had replaced our income. Lyle retired in 1991, and Rosie in 1993.
Lyle continues to take preaching appointments from time to time, but now it is just for fun, not work. I, Rosie, went on a mission trip to India a few years ago for about a month to help our son-in-law with an evangelistic series. I gave health lectures each evening. It was a real culture shock and a good experience to see the world. I’d always dreamed of seeing the Taj Mahal!!! It was amazing!!
NuSkin has provided our full time income since 1993. We reached the level of Blue Diamond in January of 1995. I (Rosie) am one of about 100 Certified Trainers in the U.S. and conduct trainings in NuSkin and NuColour once a month. We had never understood leveraged-residual income and had never done Network Marketing before. It has been very nice and can set you free to live your life as you desire. We have been participating in Big Planet and Pharmanex ever since they became a part of NuSkin Enterprises providing multiple streams of income. The company is experiencing phenomenal growth and the Wellness industry is predicted to reach 1 Trillion in sales by 2010. There couldn't be a better time to join us than right now. We truly believe this company provides the finest "Anti-Aging" products on the market today! The Pharmanex products have truly made an impact on our health and we wouldn't be without them. We are our own best customers.
As with any business, there are ups and downs. Some of the most important secrets to success in this business are: Belief in the Company, belief in the products, and belief in yourself. If you have these, you’ll be unstoppable.
After18 years, we have reached and even exceeeded many of our goals. The company has paid us well over a million dollars in cash commissions. We have moved to our "Dream Retirement Home" with a wonderful back yard and swimming pool. We love the NuSkin company, and we can highly recommend the business and products to anyone. Whether you just wish to use the products for yourself, or you’d like to build an international business, we are more than happy to work with you to help you achieve your goals. We don’t care if you prefer NuSkin, Big Planet, or Pharmanex. We want to share our success with you and help you to find the success that we have. This business brings many new friends into your life that are equally as exciting as the financial rewards. It is a very exciting and rewarding business!! We invite you to join us!!!
